9/11/2001 We Will Never Forget

I am dedicating my post today to Porkchop who crossed the bridge in 2012 and all the rescue dogs and trainers who are so brave.

We have received word that the last surviving 9/11 Search & Rescue Dog has died. Porkchop was only one year old when he heroically aided the search at Ground Zero.
After the World Trade Center attacks, 13 Search Dog Foundation teams were deployed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to help search for survivors. These teams offered hope in a world that felt somber and hopeless.  Over the intervening dozen years, the dogs have passed away from old age.  Porkchop was the last.

In this photo from 2001, Porkchop is comforted by Erick Robertson while receiving a dehydration intravenous treatment on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals mobile clinic just outside Ground Zero. Both have been working at the World Trade Center site since Sunday. (AP Photo/Suzanne Plunkett)

My thoughts are with Porkchop and all that heroes with two or four legs who were there to help. And I'm sad with the families of the victims today...

Amen to everything you said! We will always remember the real heroes of that day.

Pee Ess - Zig, about that little surgical thingie your mom might have mentioned. It really isn't bad for the boy doggies but you should cry and limp to make your mom feel guilty and give you treats. When we got ours they just glued us and it didn't even itch so we didn't have to wear anything. So don't lick that spot!
