Will you pledge with me my pals?

Hi my pals, I was doing some research on line on the ASPCA websitehttp://www.aspca.org/ and I found some information I would like to pass on to you. I know that we all know the horrors of puppy mills. I am believed to be a puppy mill survivor myself. I am lucky and have a wonderful furever home but other animals are not so lucky.

There are other ways to get puppy mill animals and one is on-line pet stores. I didn't know about those and I don't mean to be a downer but sometimes I think it is important to realize how lucky we are. Here are some ways these sites get people to buy their animals.

The Bait and Switch

In this classic scam, the website depicts dozens of photos of cute and cuddly, happy and healthy dogs and puppies for sale. What the consumer doesn’t realize is that these are stock photos used over and over again—or simply stolen from other websites. In this scam, virtually all contact is done via email, and the puppy is typically shipped without the buyer ever seeing the dog in person. The scam is revealed when the dog is delivered and the buyer is faced not with the adorable puppy from the photos, but a sickly dog, often of a different color or with different markings. Scammers count on people feeling guilty or compassionate and choosing not to send the puppy back.

Santuarcies or Scamtuaries?

Unfortunately, this next scam preys on animal lovers who want to help dogs in need. In this scenario, the puppy mill will actually set up its website as a “rescue group” or “sanctuary,” offering purebred puppies who have been rescued from shelters, bad breeders, even from puppy mills! The scam is revealed by the price tag—the “adoption fees” for these dogs often exceed $1,000! Breed rescue groups usually charge no more than a few hundred dollars—because their goal is not to make money, but to find wonderful homes for their rescues.

ONLINE STORES THAT SELL PUPPIES:
NextDayPets.com
PuppiesNDogs.com
PuppyFind.com

My pals will you please pledge with me below to not buy any products from stores or any business that sell animals. We have to help in some way to shut these puppy mills down. That is one small way we can do it.

Miss Sasha, you know we will pledge our support. We would never buy any animal online. Anything we can do to put these horrible people out of business is good.

We urge all our friends who are looking for a puppy or kitty to go to their local animal shelter and adopt one of the sweet rescues.

Thank you for sharing these sites Sasha. But I have to admit, nobody in their right mind should buy from an online pet store. Not only will they be unsure of what they get, but they also promote irresponsible breeding.

I was reading an article about teacup puppies and it was horrible what I found out about them.

Huggies and Cheese,

Haopee

P.S. I checked one of the sites you mentioned and check this out
"2 year old, spade Airedale Terrier... She was not a good mother for my breeding stock!"

That's just awful. They're selling her because they found her useless, what kind of breeder is that?!?

Miss Sasha,
Thank you so much for that most important PSA. You know what? Pea and I both come from breeder people but momma and master made sure to visit them in their homes and get references and momma even totally went to doggie shows kind of undercover and asked other breeders about the kennels where Pea and I come from.

I agree that you should never ever ever get a puppy from a place where you cannot visit first and meet the momma and (maybe) papa too. And we certainly don't shop at any store that sells puppies.

Slobbers,
Mango

We are right there with you, Sasha. Phantom came from a backyard breeder and we got pretty lucky with him. But the rest of us all come from the same breeder - that says a lot about what our humans think of her. Great post, pal.

We pledge with you Too!!! Puppy Mills and online pet stores and NOT good! WE are with a rescue group and have seen some of the horrors of puppies sold thru them. We just held an adopt a thon at a pet store that is under new management and who HAS totally gotten out of selling puppies. They want to work with rescue groups to have rescued pups adopted. Hooray for them. If we can just get more to do the same.
