Sashy's College Football Friday!!!

Hi my pals! I hope you are all having a good week. It is cold and rainy here in Michigan today, so I am staying in pretty much. I am guarding my house from the inside, watching out the window for intruders, especially furry rodent kind. The past 2 Saturdays have not been good for the Wisconsin Badgers so I am relieved to tell you that they don't play this weekend and will return next Saturday to face Purdue at home. I am making a tailgate post anyway cause Daddy still watches football all day so we may as well party!

Mommy has been going to the farmers market a lot lately and bringing home healthy looking stuff like this.

Here is even a bigger picture. Blechhhhhhhh!! Veggies!!

Somehow though, Mommy cooks these all together into something called soup. I like soup, Mommy mixes it with my food, so I guess she can keep going to the farmers market(without me sniff) as long as she makes me good stuff to eat.
Here is the menu Mommy and I worked on:
~~~~~~~~~
1. Assorted cheese and crackers(always there must be cheese)
2. Homemade minestrone soup
3. Grilled cheese sandwiches
4. Homemade applesauce(Mommy makes the best applesauce)
5. Homemade apple cake(recipe follows
~~~~~~~~~
Apple Cake
~~~~~~~~
1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (divided use)
1 cup granulated sugar or Splenda® granulated sugar substitution
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups all-purpose white flour
2 cups apples, peeled and chopped
Cream the 1/2 cup butter with 1 cup sugar and vanilla. Combine flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon together. Alternate the sour cream with the flour mixture until it is all blended in, then stir in the apples by hand. Pour into a greased 9x13 inch pan.
~~~~~~~~~~
Topping:
Mix together 2 TBSP soft butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1 tsp. cinnamon and crumble over the top of the cake.
~~~~~~~~~~
Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes
~~~~~~~~~~
I hope you all have a nice weekend wherever you are.
licks and sniffs, Sasha

Hi Sasha, we have to try that apple cake - sounds lovely.
Our mum makes soup but has never even thought of giving us some with our kibble!
Thank you for that idea - we like cooked vegetables with our kibble but wont eat them raw.
We are glad you have a weekend free of your team playing - give you time to psyche yourself up!!!
love and kisses

Even though the Badgers don't play doesn't mean mom can't cook.. Our mom likes to cook too. We tell her she needs to keep on practicing.. That means more yummy stuff for us...

You are making all of us so hungry, the pups and the humans. Soup sounds really good to the Momster, very blustery and cold here today too. Tell your Dad to enjoy his football and we hope you all have a great weekend.

Our mouths are watering.... Mmmmm.... Perfect soup weather here too, cold, windy and rainy. It knocked so many of the pretty fall leaves off the trees too soon!

Glad to hear your squirrels get to rest this weekend! Look out for those Boilermakers - I'm tellin' ya' they are t-r-o-u-b-l-e!!

Sorry I just saw this, we went out to eat last night and it threw my whole world off balance.
I am SO HUNGRY now, we are having blt's and I might have leftover pasta from Chilli's and crazy cake with chocolate icing but your recipe sounds better.
Dispatches Daddy will watch football when he can but he knows mama (me) will do something else unless it's like the chiefs and overtime or something. LOL

Hmmmn... veggies! Frappie, Mocha and Sugar like veggies but Bullet is not really a veggies fan. Mommy says veggies can make us strong so eat them so we can also play more.
The Apple cake sure sound yummy! We have never tried apples. (hint hint, mommy!)
